Pulmón


Today's WOTD is: 'pulmón' = lung

In Spanish, the noun 'pulmón' is a masculine noun of Latin origin, the main meaning of which is lung. The noun 'pulmón' is often used in its plural form, 'pulmones', meaning lungs.

In Spanish, a word related to the noun 'pulmón' is the describing word/ adjective 'pulmonar', which means appertaining/ related to the lung(s).

Some commonly used expressions containing the word 'pulmón' are:
  • Cantar a pleno pulmón (to sing at the top of one's voice).
  • Cantar a todo pulmón (to sing at the top of one's voice).

  • Para que la oigan, María grita a pleno pulmón (in order to make herself heard, María is shouting at the top of her voice).

  • El pulmón de acero contribuyó a un mejor tratamiento de la poliomelitis (the iron lung brought an improvement to the treatment of polio).
  • En el campo donde el aire es puro, respiramos a pleno pulmón (in the countryside where the air is pure we breath taking deep breaths).
  • En el campo donde el aire es puro , respiramos a todo pulmón (in the countryside where the air is pure we breath taking deep breaths) .
  • Ese niño sí que tiene buenos pulmones (that child really does have a good pair of lungs).
  • Las infecciones pulmonares pueden causar graves problemas sanitarios (lung infections can cause serious health problems).
