Will You Have Time For A Coffee?

SCENARIO
Imagine you are with a relative, a friend or colleague. You appear to have quite a lot of things to do. The other person wonders if you will take a few moments to have a coffee and says to you something like: "will you have time for a coffee?"

In Spanish, the other person could choose to be less formal and say:
¿Te queda tiempo para un café?

Alternatively, he/ she could choose to be more formal and say:
¿Le queda (a usted) tiempo para un café?

OUR TIP
The question is an invitation for you to say whether or not you can spare some time for a coffee. When you say if you can spare some time for something, you DO NOT need to be concerned about the level of formality in the other person's question. Your main concern should be about saying whether you can do it or not.

Here are some examples of how you could reply:
  • Sí, me queda un poco tiempo para tomar un café (yes, I can spare a little time to have a coffee);
  • Sí, me quedan cinco minutos, vamos a tomar un café (yes, I can spare five minutes, let's go for a coffee);
  • No, no me queda tiempo para tomar un café (no, I don't have any time to have a coffee);

Now you should practise answering the question:
¿Te queda tiempo para un café?
