Botón

Today's WOTD is: "botón" = button

In Spanish, “botón”* is a masculine noun of German origin, the main meaning of which is button. The Spanish noun “botón” may also be used to refer to a rose bud.

A related Spanish action word/ verb is “abotonar”/ “abotonarse”, which means to button up/ do up.

NB The plural form, "botones" may also be used to refer to a bellboy/ bellhop/ page/ office boy/ office girl. In all these cases, the noun has only one form for singular, plural, masculine and feminine.

Some expressions with the word “botón” are:
  • Apretar el botón (to press the button);
  • Botón de apagado ('OFF' button);
  • Botón de encendido ('ON' button);
