Is The Park Near?

Introduction

This post deals with indicating how near/ far the park is in Spanish, and the distance from where you are to the park.

SCENARIO

Imagine you are with a relative, a friend, a work colleague or even a complete stranger who is looking for the park and asks you: "is the park near?"

In Spanish, the other person could choose to say:

¿Queda cerca el parque?

OUR TIP

The question is an invitation for you to say how far away the park is. A yes/no answer may be strictly sufficient. However, with little effort, your answer could be a lot more informative.

Here are some examples of how you could reply:

El parque queda lejos (the park is far away)
El parque queda bastante lejos (the park is quite far away)
El parque queda muy lejos (the park is very far away)
El parque queda cerca (the park is near)
El parque queda bastante cerca (the park is quite near)
El parque queda muy cerca (the park is very near)
El parque queda a la vuelta de la esquina (the park is around the corner)
El parque queda al final de la calle (the park is at the end of the street/ road)
El parque queda a dos manzanas (the park is two blocks away)
El parque queda a dos cuadras (the park is two blocks away)
El parque queda a cinco minutos a pie (the park is five minutes away on foot)
El parque queda en el centro (the park is in the town centre/ downtown)
El parque no queda cerca (the park is not near)
El parque queda a doscientos metros^* (the park is 200 meters away)
El parque queda a trescientos metros^* (the park is 300 meters away)
