Introduction
This
post showcases/ highlights a typical use of the verb dar*.
SCENARIO
Imagine
you are talking to a relative, a friend or a work colleague.
You are talking about yourself and your propensity to feel jealousy.
At
some point, the other person says:
"who
causes you to feel jealous?"
In
Spanish, he/she could choose to be less formal and say:
¿Quién
te da celos?
Alternatively,
he/ she could choose to be more formal and say:
¿Quién
le da a usted celos?

Answering
this question should be straightforward. Indicating or naming a
person(s) might well be sufficient. However, the question includes an
expression (dar celos) which you could use to make your answer
more informative.
Here
are some examples of how you could use that expression:
- Me dan celos mis amigos (my friends make me feel jealous);
- Me da celos mi amigo Pedro (my friend Pedro makes me feel jealous);
- Me da celos mi amiga María (my friend María makes me feel jealous);
- Me da celos mi hermano (my brother makes me feel jealous);
- Me da celos mi hermana (my sister makes me feel jealous);
- Me da celos mi primo (my cousin -male makes me feel jealous);
- Me da celos mi prima (my cousin -female makes me feel jealous);
